So, you’ve got an idea for a fantastic non-fiction play…how do you craft an original narrative that captures the depth and drama of a real-life event? Where and how do you begin your creative process? A huge part of the work starts with interviewing in the field--strong interviewing generates strong content.Tectonic Theater Project’s Moment Work Institute is offering the 10-week course Making Theater from Interviews, Sept. 11- Nov. 13, in downtown Manhattan. Tectonic scriptwriter Amanda Gronich will provide training in diverse techniques that generate powerful non-fiction storytelling. Exploring the art of interviewing, dramatic story structures, and Moment Work, participants will discover how to craft and hone interview material into thought-provoking, well-plotted theatrical narratives. Tectonic Theater Project used Moment Work and other development techniques to retell the story of the tragic murder of Matthew Shepard (The Laramie Project). During their creative process, the company conducted over 200 interviews, uncovering first-hand accounts from Matthew’s family and friends, Laramie residents, activists, media and academics.
