It's CyberTheatre Time

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

I hope you and your loved ones are all doing as well as can be expected in these crazy times.

One of my responses has been to create website for building community around the possibilities of creating live, real-time  theatre in cyberspace. I hope it will be a resource, a tool, a forum, a creative space for brainstorming, a refuge, and an outpost for theatre in cyberspace.. The website is www.cybertheatre.org

The website will link you to a google group I’ve created to host the forum. I’ve seeded the forum with 8 topics, and participants can add new topics as well.  Here are the first 8:

  • How can theatre exist in cyberspace?
  • What are the parameters of cybertheatre?
  • Share some processes for adapting existing scripts to theatre in cyberspace.
  • Share some processes for creating new material for theatre in cyberspace.
  • Resource sharing
  • Technology for cybertheatre
  • Elements and Opportunities
    • What are some elements of live theatre that are worth simulating in the cybertheatre event?
    • What elements of live theatre should be jettisoned in cyberspace?
    • What opportunities for new elements exist in cybertheatre?

I’m also planning to host a listing of cybertheatre events.  There is a What’s Happening page for listing and submitting events.  There is also a topic in the forum called What’s Happening to share information about events and I will post them to the website.

I hope this will be a useful resource for all of us as we adapt to the rapidly shifting conditions around us.  Please take a few minutes to check it out and if you are interested,  join the google group and follow the blog.
