Weekly Briefing: TCG on Summer Break Until July 6

Thank you for all the kind words and thoughtful feedback you’ve given in response to the changes underway at TCG. The spirit of generosity theatre people have shown since the pandemic struck, along with the renewed urgency and collective action toward a more just theatre field, have me feeling strangely hopeful in spite of many hard days still to come.

TCG is going dark from June 25 through July 3 for a necessary week of staff rest and recovery. During this time, we will not be checking email or phone messages until we reopen on Monday, July 6. We have begun instituting mandatory periods of disconnection to ensure we’re not burning ourselves out, and to live up to our internal core values of Mindfulness and Balance. This is especially critical knowing that many of our staff members are themselves directly impacted by the pain of COVID-19 in their families, and of the horrors of police brutality and White supremacy. If an emergency arises during this time of disconnection, please contact info@tcg.org

I’ll leave you with a few last things before we return in two weeks:

  • The next cohort of the Rising Leaders of Color has launched and I encourage you to get to know them and support their work.
  • Congratulations as well to Jeanna DiPaolo, the 2020 recipient of The Willa Kim Costume Design Scholarship.
  • Our friends at SMU DataArts and TRG Arts have co-authored a new whitepaper, In It for the Long Haul, in order to help arts and cultural organizations consider key questions and variables as they plan for reopening and a post-COVID-19 future.
  • It’s not too late to make a fiscal year-end contribution to TCG. Please support us in our efforts to help keep the theatre field strong and resilient during these challenging times. Any amount counts!
