Bossa Nova

Bossa Nova

By Kirsten Greenidge

Directed by Evan Yionoulis

Originally produced at Yale Repertory Theatre, New Haven, CT.

November 28, 2010 through December 18, 2010

About the Premiere Production:
Dee Paradis has never fit in. Raised on the gentle swing of bossa nova and educated at elite, predominately white schools, she has led a life meticulously designed by her elegant and strong-willed mother, Lady. In the split second when she locks eyes with Lady in the mirror before a dinner party, Dee—nearly 30 years old and still torn between her mother's expectations and a former lover’s ideals of authenticity—comes face to face with a choice that will determine her future.

Artistic Statement: Yale Rep is proud to produce Kirsten Greenidge’s work: she has earned the field’s and the nation’s attention. Bossa Nova is filled with potent lyricism and imagery. The play is a powerful and intimate depiction of intersections of race, class, and culture in America, looking back and forward in our nation’s history: it will resonate as long as there are mothers and daughters considering their past and making plans for their future. - From James Bundy, Artistic Director:

What this grant has allowed us to do: The New American Play Award is a visionary investment in artistic quality—by supporting an additional week of rehearsal, the Edgerton Foundation gives the greatest flexibility to the artistic team and the cast to refine the world premiere production.- From James Bundy, Artistic Director:
