About the Premiere Production: What do a 70 year old extremely wealthy, extremely powerful Caucasian man and a 33 year old extremely beautiful, extremely intelligent Asian woman have in common? Everything if you are Mrs. Green, a modern day match maker for a highly specialized clientele looking for potential marriage partners. She thinks she may have found the right people for each other in Jackson Heller and Scarlet Mori-Yang. A match made in heaven or a merger of mutual interests? This provocative comedy takes an unflinching look at the “Rupert Murdoch Marriage Phenomenon” while skewering old prejudices and political correctness with one simple unexpected element – love.

Artistic Statement: Our mission is to produce plays that engage, entertain and inspire as well as benefit our diverse community. The collaboration with Love In American Times continues the Rep’s commitment to local artists and to reaching out to the diversity of our community and the larger Bay Area region. Philip Kan Gotanda is one of the preeminent contemporary American playwrights chronicling the Asian American experience, and has been a leader in bringing the stories of Asian Americans to the nation's stages. We believe his stature and history of achievement in the American theater will lead to enormous national and potential international interest, in this new work. It is a play that touches in many ways directly on the cultural moment, and is very likely to be produced by other regional theaters due to the smart, sophisticated approach the play handles romantic comedy, while at the same time exploring interesting themes of cultural, class and racial differences.
