Governance at the Crossroads: A Strategic Retreat

One of the most popular sessions at our 2022 TCG National Conference was “It’s Broken, So Let’s Fix It: A Collective and Radical Reimagining of Theatre Boards.” Led by Michael J. Bobbitt, and building on his
American Theatre article on the same theme, this session helped inspire our upcoming Governance at the Crossroads: A Strategic Retreat. Held virtually and in-person in New York City on Friday, November 11, this retreat will be a think tank for a deep, generative envisioning process. Through facilitated conversations around foundational questions of governance, we can collectively reimagine boards for a truly just and thriving theatre field.

These conversations will also help trustees and theatre leaders meet the unique challenges of the moment as we continue to emerge from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to the all-day strategic retreat on November 11, the event will include a social gathering the evening of Thursday, November 10 and an optional closing session the morning of Saturday, November 12.

How to Register

Participation in Governance at the Crossroads: A Strategic Retreat will be accessible both virtually and in-person in New York City. Because of limited availability at the in-person event, we’re prioritizing registration for TCG Member Theatres in good standing, who will be welcome to send up to two representatives for a reduced rate, and strongly encouraging one of those attendees to be a trustee. There are no limits to virtual participation. We’re also planning to fully document the ideas generated by the Strategic Retreat to disseminate widely.

Registration Rates

In-person Individual Registration Rate

$ 325.00

In-person Duo Registration Rate (per person)*

$ 250.00

Virtual Registration Rate

$ 125.00

*The Duo Registration rate is reserved for Member Theatres sending two individuals in-person. If you plan to send two representatives, please register either at once, or individually but within 24 hours of each other, and use the code FF22DUO to render the Duo rate for each registration.

The Individual Rate is intended for Member Theatre representatives attending the Retreat as the sole representative of their theatre.

If you or your theatre will only be able to attend with financial support, please contact Devon Berkshire at to request reduced rates. A limited number of reduced rate registrations for both In-person and Virtual attendance have been set aside for those experiencing economic hardship at this time.

Registration will be open until November 4th, or until sold out!

COVID-19 Safety

TCG will follow all New York City and state policies, as well as CDC guidelines, in determining safety protocols for the in-person event. Additionally, TCG will prioritize accessibility for those who are most vulnerable to the pandemic. Our policies will be announced closer to the event and are subject to change.
