Kimberly Akimbo, which TCG Books will publish on June 20th, took home five trophies at the 2023 Tony Awards, including Best New Musical, Best Original Score, and Best Book of a Musical. Two of the stars of the show, Victoria Clark and Bonnie Milligan, also won awards for Best Leading Actress in a Musical and Best Featured Actress in a Musical. Kimberly Akimbo centers on a young girl suffering from a rare disease that causes her to age four and a half times faster than her peers. Surrounded by classmates who can't wait to get older and adults who can't seem to grow up, Kimberly is also navigating her first crush. This musical is a "great adventure" for anyone who has ever felt "a little odd, a little off, a bit unorthodox."
In addition to Kimberly Akimbo, Topdog/Underdog also won a Tony for Best Play Revival. This play's recent Broadway revival was directed by Kenny Leon and starred Corey Hawkins and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who were both nominated for Best Lead Actor in a Play.
Parade, which TCG Books publishes in our collection The New American Musical won Best Revival of a Musical and Best Direction of a Musical.
Finally, Prima Facie, published by Nick Hern Books and distributed by TCG Books, won the award for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play for Jodie Cromer.
In addition to these awards, TCG member theater Pasadena Playhouse won the 2023 Regional Theatre Tony Award.
