Empowering the Future of the Field: Changing Landscapes in Higher Education

We are thrilled to announce Theatre Communication Group’s first-ever convening dedicated to discussing current issues affecting the higher education community: Empowering the Future of the Field: Changing Landscapes in Higher Education to be held on June 4 in Miami, FL.

What are the ways in which landscapes are shifting in both higher education and the professional field, and how do we help prepare students for, and empower them to help catalyze, that change? In Miami we will bring together higher education faculty, students, administrators, and theatre professionals from across the country for interactive conversations, collaborative problem-solving (including the sharing of new and diverse models) and experiential activities around three main focus areas:

1) Economics of Higher Education;
2) Community, Collaboration, and Partnerships -- both within and outside the field, in the U.S. and abroad;
3) Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in Higher Education.

This single-day “pre-conference” will serve as a prequel to TCG’s National Conference; we hope you’ll consider continuing the conversation with us at the full Conference, to be held in Miami from June 5-7.

For more detailed information about this pre-conference, and for registration information, please visit our conference site here.  If you are interested in joining us for the full TCG National Conference experience, we are happy to extend the early bird discount to you -- please email Anne Ciarlone at aciarlone@tcg.org and she will send you the code to apply to your registration. We also have a deeply discounted Pre-Conference rate of $50 for students.  If you know of students who are interested and available to join us in Miami, please let Anne know and she’ll send you info on how to get them registered.

As the saying goes, each of us knows a little, but together we know a lot. This pre-conference will celebrate the diversity of training models in higher education, and aims to foster connection and community across the field as we consider the multitude of ways in which higher education and professional theatre spaces are changing, and how we can collaboratively lead the change while preparing and empowering our students into the field.

On behalf of all of us at TCG and the Higher Education Pre-Conference Planning Committee, we hope you’ll consider joining us in Miami and adding your voice to these important and timely conversations. It would be so great to have representation from your institution at the pre-conference.
