Shuttered Venue Operators Grants – Portal Update

This afternoon Gene Sperling, a longtime economic adviser under Democratic administrations, tapped by President Biden to oversee implementation of his $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief plan, Zach Butterworth, Director of Private Sector Engagement at the White House Office of Public Engagement, and Bharat Ramamurti, Deputy Director of the National Economic Council held an SVOG Stakeholder briefing session.

TCG was in attendance along with the Association of Performing Arts Professionals, Broadway League, Coalition of Large Theaters, Dance/USA, League of American Orchestras, National Association of Theatre Owners, National Independent Talent Association, National Independent Venue Association, Opera America, Performing Arts Alliance, Performing Arts Center Consortium, and more.

The White House assured stakeholders that reopening the SVOG portal expediently and successfully is a high priority for the Small Business Administration and the Biden Administration, and rigorous stress testing and further improvement on the system is underway.  We are thrilled to hear the White House understands the importance of this program to shuttered venues across the country and the urgency of a successful relaunch.

SBA is looking to re-open the program as soon as possible – perhaps as early as the end of next week – and we continue to advocate for technical fixes as well as substantive corrections.

Please stay tuned – TCG will alert the field when more information is known. Please continue to check the Federal Relief page and TCG Blogs for updates.
