We’re pleased to share out the
recording of our virtual summit Advocacy and Financial Resilience last Thursday, October 28th, as well as the Padlet, where we took note of the resources and slides shared during the summit.

We hope that you come away with a renewed commitment to arts advocacy, to the equitable distribution of federal resources, to collaborative thinking across advocacy coalitions and to rebuilding the theatre field as the just and thriving ecology that we have envisioned it will be.

Additionally,

  • All registrants in the Advocacy and Financial Resilience Virtual Summit have been added to a new Arts Advocacy Circle Group. This open Circle Community is for all theatre people committed to arts advocacy and taking action on policy issues at the federal level that impact the performing arts community. The Arts Advocacy Circle Group will be an information center, as well as a place to ask questions, share resources, and take collective action. A number of resources have already been linked to and provided in this Community, including 2021 federal policy issue briefs, a Grassroots Advocacy Toolkit, a Guide to Gift Rules, Lobbying Rules and definitions, and TCG’s Nonpartisanship/Bipartisanship Policy Statement. We hope you will be an active participant in this Community!

  • If you haven’t yet, please take a few minutes to complete this COVID-19 Federal Relief Survey for your theatre. Your voice is important! We are hoping to more inclusively track information about federal pandemic relief that reached nonprofit theatres. We are urging every theatre to participate!

  • Please take a moment to fill out our post-Summit evaluation. It is very short and it will help us to improve TCG’s future convenings.

Our thanks to all of the speakers who participated in the summit, including: Teresa Coleman Wash, Executive Artistic Director, Bishop Arts Theatre Center; Cynthia Fuhrman, Managing Director, Portland Center Stage; Maria Manuela Goyanes, Artistic Director, Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company; Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN); Najean Lee, Director of Government Affairs & Education Advocacy, League of American Orchestras; Heather Noonan, Vice President for Advocacy, League of American Orchestras; Nikkole Salter, TCG Board Chair; Tony Shivers, Director of Government Affairs, Dance/USA and Opera America; and Dr. Zannie Voss, director of SMU/DataArts.

And thanks to our partners at HowlRound TV for live streaming the day.

If you’re able, please donate to TCG to support the labor, infrastructure, and creative spirit that made the 2021 Virtual Summit happen.
