NEA Holding Summit on Arts and Culture
On January 30, 2024 the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) is co-hosting, with the White House Domestic Policy Council, a first-of-its-kind national convening bringing together leaders from across sectors, including government officials; policymakers; artists; arts advocates; academics; philanthropic, labor, and community leaders; and the public. “Healing, Bridging, Thriving: A Summit on Arts and Culture in our Communities” is exploring the contribution of the arts to health and well-being, as well as driving equitable outcomes for communities across the country. Participants are considering ideas, policies, and actions that can better integrate and elevate the arts and humanities throughout the country. The summit is open to virtual attendees via live webcast. An archive of the livestream will be available on the NEA's YouTube page after the event.

NEA Grants Support Theatre Programs
The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) announced the first round of recommended awards for fiscal year 2024, with 1,288 grants totaling $32,223,055. Recipients include organizations from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico, recommended in the categories of Grants for Arts Projects, Challenge America, Research Grants in the Arts, and Research Labs.

There were 117 theatres receiving a total of $3,164,000 and 15 musical theatre awards were announced, totaling $455,000. Awards by discipline may be found here. Descriptions of all supported projects are available via the agency’s grant search tool.

Upcoming NEA Grant Due Dates
Mark your calendar with the following due dates for NEA FY25 Grants for Arts Projects, the Endowment's major support category for organizations for projects anticipated to take place beginning in 2025:

  • Grants for Arts Projects, (First Round): February 15, 2024
  • Grants for Arts Projects, (Second Round): July 11, 2024
  • Challenge America: April 25, 2024

Challenge America offers support primarily to small organizations for projects that extend the reach of the arts to underserved groups/communities. Challenge America seeks to address potential barriers for organizations seeking funding by recognizing:

  • Some groups/communities and some geographic areas with rich and dynamic artistic and cultural identities have limited grant funding opportunities, and/or have been historically underserved by national arts funding;
  • Some small organizations may face barriers to accessing grant funding; and
  • Some applicants to the NEA may benefit from enhanced technical assistance resources.

The NEA has updated Grants for Arts Projects guidelines and Challenge America guidelines on its website.
