HELLO!
We are a research team made up of voice professionals Prof. Melissa Tonning-Kollwitz and Joe Hetterly and we are conducting a quick 10 question, 5-minute survey. This survey is a part of a multifaceted research study collecting data about theatres affiliated with Theatre Communications Group and Shakespeare Theatre Association, as well as Broadway productions to learn:
- how and when Voice, Text, and Accent/Dialect coaches are used
- if/when standard dialects are utilized
WHY
Large-scale data like this has never been collected before about voice and speech work in theatres. Your participation in this survey will help us get an accurate picture of the current industry in order to better analyze what the pedagogical needs are for actor-training programs. Please note: it is just as important for us to collect data whether you do or do not utilize an accent/dialect coach.
"As voice and speech teachers we want to make sure that what we teach is relevant to the expectations of the industry. We know that this is ever-evolving, so this survey will arm us with the knowledge about how to better prepare our students for the industry they're entering upon graduation."
WHO
If possible, please forward this to the person who knows most about your theatre's entire season (i.e. Production Stage Manager, Resident Accent/Dialect Coach, or Artistic Director). If you are unsure about a specific production and it is possible to contact that director to get the most accurate information, it will greatly benefit the study. Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
The average time to fill out this survey is 5 minutes and it contains 10 questions.
