Does The New Normal Provide New Ways To Increase Access to Broader Audiences

Thinking about the new normal, or new abnormal, I wanted to ask for thoughts and ideas on how theaters can combine creativity and digital technology to meet diverse audiences where and when they are? Many theaters are currently using digital means to cater to homebound existing audiences. Are there opportunities to use options like hybrid live/digital platforms and flexible performance formats to attract new audiences now unable or disinterested in attending theater? Could a combination of hybrid live/online programming, variable performance times, and unconventional venues make theater performances more accessible to differently abled audiences and theatermakers? This could include the large older cohort in current theater audiences. Are colleagues getting the data they need to make these decisions from the research on audience intentions and behavior that is being conducted by organizations like TRG Arts, WolfBrown, Shugoll, Slover Linett Audience Research, and, of course, Americans for the Arts?
