Remembrance Readings Program for Yom HaShoah

For six years the National Jewish Theater Foundation - Holocaust Theater International Initiative has expanded their Remembrance Reading Program that uses the power of live theatre to commemorate the Holocaust its history, victims and survivors. These readings of plays selected by an individual or organization from their Holocaust Theater Catalog have been performed across the U.S. and globally. To keep the light of solidarity lit even during a global pandemic, NJTF is offering a program alternative to live readings planned in honor of Yom HaShoah, April 20th and April 21st, 2020.

They're offering a free program of presenting the PBS filming of Jeff Cohen’s THE SOAP MYTH, a staged reading that features two legendary performers, Ed Asner, and Tovah Feldshuh. Filmed by WNET’s All Arts channel last April 2019 at the Center for Jewish History in New York City, this 80-minute film is now available for free streaming around the world here

However you choose to mark Yom HaShoah, we know that as culture makers, we have a special responsibility to challenge oppressive narratives and nourish those of resistance and liberation. That’s why I’m honored to serve on the advisory board of the National Jewish Theater Foundation. With anti-Semitic hate crimes on the rise, this work of tending our collective memory is deeply needed.
