We’re writing today with an important update about your TCG Individual Membership: American Theatre magazine is pausing its print edition at least through December 2020, while continuing its reporting online.
Over the next six months we’ll continue to publish special online issues, cover the news, host our podcast series, and launch new live virtual events. Please read Editor-in-Chief Rob Weinert-Kendt’s letter to learn more about how American Theatre will keep the ghost light on.
We know that for many of you, receiving the print edition of American Theatre in the mail was a treasured tradition, and an important reason why you joined TCG as an Individual Member. Your ongoing support of the digital version of American Theatre will help us expand our coverage and sharpen our responsiveness at this critical time.
More than that, your Individual Membership has empowered our robust response to support theatres and theatre artists through the crisis of the COVID-19 global pandemic. That response has included:
- stabilizing the field by advocating for and disseminating relief funds;
- organizing theatres through virtual gatherings, including a virtual conference attended by over 2,000 theatremakers (including many Individual Members);
- communicating the urgent needs of theatres and theatre artists to press and other media
- innovating news ways of connecting with audiences--including the wide-ranging coverage online in American Theatre; and
- transforming the systemic challenges our field faces to emerge stronger from this crisis.
That includes transforming our own programming, as we did when we radically shifted part two of our 2020 TCG Virtual Conference -Convening in response to the loss of so many Black lives to police brutality and the ever-present reality of White supremacy.
