April is Autism Acceptance Month! While this month had previously been known as Autism Awareness Month, #ActuallyAutistic activists were successful in changing it from awareness to acceptance. In honor of the month, we wanted to share a few ways to support austic theatre people and audiences:

• Support theatre companies led by and for neurodiverse communities, such as Spectrum Theatre Ensemble. 
• Cast austic actors in autistic roles, and in all roles! Read more in “The Power of Authenticity: Disability On Stage and Off in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.”
• Host sensory-friendly and autism-friendly performances—read more here. 
• Consider the intersections of racism with ableism. For example, read: This Autism Awareness Month, Don’t Forget About Black Autistic Women. 
• Push back against fear-mongering narratives of autistic people and celebrate positive narratives of neurodiversity. 

And remember to share the rainbow infinity symbol, which represents neurodiverse and neurotypical communities as natural parts of the whole of human experience. Share this symbol instead of anything from Autism Speaks, an organization which autistic people have named as harmful to them.
