About the Premiere Production: In a summer cottage on Chesapeake Bay, Gunner has hatched an unorthodox plan to secure his family’s future but meets with resistance from his wife and son, who have plans of their own. As winter approaches, the three must quickly find common ground and come to an understanding – before the tide goes out. The new drama hums with dark humor and powerful emotion.
Artistic Statement: One of the important parts of our commissioning program is the ability to bring artists together who feel passionately about working on a project that speaks to them, and whose voices combine to produce work that is both harmonious and vigorous. With John Mahoney, a frequent collaborator, and Bruce Graham a Northlight veteran I felt that the combined gifts of these artists would approach a potentially painful topic, the right to choose one's fate, in a fresh and compassionate way. I have worked with both these artists on several occasions, and I'm convinced that bringing them together will create a blended perspective of unique and vital impact. In addition our audience is demographically perfect for the topic, themes and characters that Bruce's play represents. It is an important and timely opportunity and I am excited to help bring it to life
