Water By The Spoonful
By Quiara Alegria Hudes
Directed by Davis McCallum
Originally produced at Hartford Stage, Hartford, CT.
October 20, 2011 through November 13, 2011
About the Premiere Production: A soldier returns from the war and struggles to put aside the demons that haunt him. His mother, a recovering addict, battles her own demons. The boundaries of family and friendship are stretched across time and cyberspace in this world-premiere drama. The second installment of a trilogy that began with Elliot, A Soldier's Fugue.
Artistic Statement: In Water by the Spoonful, the boundaries of family and friendship are stretched across time and cyberspace. Quiara Alegria Hudes has found a lyrical and dynamic way to dramatize an important yet theatrically elusive subject: how Internet has changed our lives and how it both connects us and keeps us distant from the rest of humanity.
-Darko Tresnjak
Grant Statement: The grant specifically offers an additional week of rehearsal for the production. New plays are dynamic, and the rehearsal process is an invaluable tool for the playwright to explore, craft, and fine tune the work. This additional week of rehearsal will undoubtedly enhance the cast and creative team’s vision for the world premiere of Water by the Spoonful.
