February 9 – March 19, 2023

Synopsis: 1982. Elyria, Ohio: Two women collide 20 years, 3 continents, and 2 oceans after making a deal of a lifetime, forcing them to face the knots of the past and the uncertainty of their inextricably linked future.

Artistic Statement: We are thrilled to be premiering Elyria by Deepa Purohit who is making her Off Broadway debut with this story about two mothers making a life-altering decision. The play will feature Garba dancing, a dance that is a significant part of Gujarati culture in the diaspora. Elyria marks an exciting moment in the South Asian theater community and the recognition of an incredible new voice.

Grant Statement: Elyria is an ambitious, nine character play that moves between time periods and has a significant amount of choreography. We have reconfigured our space for this production. An extra week of rehearsal supported by the Edgerton Foundation will allow the artists extra time to work on such an ambitious, large scope play. We are thankful for the friendship of the Edgerton Foundation, with which Atlantic continues investing in artists creating relevant and innovative new theater, expanding the canon of American theater.
