Synopsis: 1970. Six women—strangers—gather in a basement gymnasium at their local community center, determined to shake up their lives and the world around them. Fifty years later, one of their daughters tries to piece together what the hell happened.

From Tony Award® nominees Bess Wohl (Grand Horizons) and Whitney White (Jaja’s African Hair Braiding) comes a provocative, revealing, and irreverent jolt of a play about what really goes on when women meet behind closed doors.

Artistic Statement: With ingenious theatricality and keen insight, Liberation expands the American canon by dramatizing the historic sweep and human scale of feminist struggle. The world premiere of Bess Wohl’s “memory play about things I don’t remember” offers audiences an intimate, epic story about mothers and daughters, progress and compromise, and the struggle for freedom not just in society, but in your own mind and heart.
