Synopsis: This haunting world premiere unfolds in Moscow, where an independent journalist covering Putin’s first term struggles to maintain sanity and hope in increasingly hostile circumstances. She finds herself on the brink of an explosive story — but as danger mounts for her and her sources, she questions whether her bravery will make any difference at all. Written by Erika Sheffer, Vladimir is about standing up to immorality no matter the cost, when you know your nation is headed for disaster. Directed by Tony Award winner Daniel Sullivan.

Artistic Statement:

When I first encountered Erika Sheffer’s play Vladimir two years ago, I was immediately struck by its intelligence, wit, and emotional power. The play’s focus on journalistic integrity and standing up to wrongdoing are relevant to current discourse in America and around the world.

Erika created a vibrant new play set in early 2000s Russia with richly drawn characters and a portrait of integrity, compromise, and heroism. We are so looking forward to sharing her brilliant work with our audiences.

With a sweeping scope and large cast, this urgent new play will greatly benefit from an extra week of rehearsal time, so it can reach its full potential before meeting audiences.
