About the Premiere Production: Set backstage at the 1835 Paris premiere of Vincenzo Bellini's final opera, I Puritani, McNally explores the passionate world of opera in this new play.
Artistic Statement The world premiere of Golden Age is thrilling opportunity for both Philadelphia Theatre Company and Terrence McNally, and we are most pleased that he has entrusted this project to our care. With the subsequent transfer to the Kennedy Center after its run in Philadelphia, Golden Age is an important project for PTC to produce at this time as it capitalizes on several key strengths that will capture national attention: our long-standing relationship with McNally; our 30-year plus commitment to new work; and our beautiful new home at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre. The production will showcase to our audience members the powerful possibilities that can be realized in our new facility, and it will enhance PTC and Philadelphia’s reputation as a home for new work development. - From Producing Artistic Director Sara Garonzik
