SEEKING RESIDENT MUSIC DIRECTOR 

Overview: Looking for a qualified Resident Music Director for our upcoming season.

Full Job Description:

Responsible for Music Directing all three upcoming musicals for the season, with an option to add on the youth summer musical. Maintain and enhance the tradition of interest in and passion for music and the performing arts. The Music Director will work closely with guest directors and department heads to provide high-quality experiences for our volunteers and patrons.

              

Job Responsibilities:

o    Evaluate the show score and spend necessary time to have full command of the music.

o    Establish meetings with Director to understand concepts and needs of the Production before auditions.

o    Attend the workshop, auditions, callbacks, rehearsals, including all technical rehearsals and run-throughs, all production meetings, and all performances as requested by the Executive & Artistic Director and Department Heads. Production meetings are scheduled in advance and take place weekly. If you cannot attend them in person or on zoom you are responsible for meeting individually with the director for anything that might have been missed and a general touch base and letting the Production Coordinator know in a timely manner any updates for the team to share in your absence.

o    Provide a comprehensive breakdown of the show’s vocal parts with vocal ranges in a timely manner, prior to auditions to the Production Coordinator to allow for it to be distributed on the cue sheet, casting notices and any printed material.

o    Ocala Civic Theatre recommends that auditioners sing a song/cut from the show for auditions, if you wish to hear anything specific or different you must give that breakdown to the Production Coordinator in advance to allow it to go out with the audition cue sheet, which is sent out by our head of Marketing.

o    Recommend musicians needed to present the show within the established show budget in a timely manner.

o    Create an orchestra rehearsal schedule and reserve space through both our Production Coordinator and the Director of Guest Services & Operations. Guest Musician contracts are usually written for 1 rehearsal, 1 Sitzprobe, 3 dress rehearsals, and 15 shows.

o    Provide the Executive & Artistic Director and Department Heads with a schedule and contact information for each musician in a timely manner to ensure that musicians are paid.

o    Instruct musicians that if the rented scores that are provided to them for the show are damaged, the musician is responsible for paying to replace the score.

o    Make note of any equipment that is malfunctioning or in need of service and report this to the Executive & Artistic Director and Technical Director.

Preferred Qualifications:

o    Possess in-depth knowledge of choral techniques and skills, relevant teaching experience, working with various levels of singers and group dynamics.

o    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent

o    Experience with and proficiency in Finale, Garage band, and Mainstage.

o    Piano proficiency, experience playing piano and conducting an orchestra.
