Six Reasons You Can’t Miss Governance at the Crossroads!

We’ve heard across the theatre field that systems of governance are at an inflection point and there's a growing desire to reimagine those systems together. Happening on November 11 both virtually and in New York City,
Governance at the Crossroads: A Strategic Retreat will give us space to do that. We've put together a list of reasons you need to be in the room for this brand new, unique gathering! Register now!

It’s an evolved take on TCG’s traditional Fall Forum on Governance.

We’ve designed this new event in response to what we’ve heard from a lot of you. Keeping in mind both those who are experiencing challenges but also those whose boards are strong, but who haven’t had a chance in the race to reopen, to pause and reflect on what is and what is not working.

The main difference? Format. We’ll leverage smaller group conversations led by a facilitator and centered on a series of prompts to address questions of your organization’s governance. We’ve scaled back on curation to allow for the emergence of candid, timely conversations that are specific to you.

Plus, it’s half the price of what our usual Fall Forum on Governance would have been!

We didn’t skimp on the social time and networking!

We know part of what makes our time together so valuable is when we get to share a laugh, a drink or a meal together. Times for mingling and meeting one another are built in via Thursday opening reception, breaks, meals, and Friday’s happy hour, for those who join us in person. We’ll end right in time for you to catch a show nearby too!

Member theatres can now bring up to THREE representatives.

One way to start tackling this work is to have organizational leaders and trustees in the space. We’re prioritizing in-person registration for TCG Member Theatres in good standing, who will be welcome to send up to three representatives at a discounted rate, increased from two in response to popular demand. TCG strongly encourages one of those attendees to be a trustee. There are no limits to virtual participation.

We’re imagining, reflecting, and action planning – together!

You can expect almost five hours of generative, facilitated discussion happening in 90 minute blocks on Friday. On Saturday, our optional morning session will be focused on reflection and action planning. We believe the most urgent work at hand today is work that must be done together which is why we’ve changed things up this year.

Amazing theatre leaders and trustees are planning it!

We’re working with an exciting advisory group of trustees and theatre leaders who have deep experience and radical imaginations. This group includes Michael Bobbitt (who led the 2022 TCG National Conference session that inspired this retreat), Hana Sharif, Miles Benickes, J. Chris Babb, and Snehal Desai. This team is shaping the conversations we’ll have so don’t miss your chance to be in the room!

It’s designed with how you’ll attend in mind.

TCG is striving to make every one of our events hybrid so this event will have a virtual attendance option! The virtual groups will move through the same conversations as the in-person groups, in facilitated space with their own dedicated facilitators. The final program on Friday and the optional program on Saturday will be livestreamed for our virtual attendees.
