AN IMPORTANT WARNING TO TCG 2019 CONFERENCE REGISTRANTS!
Sham housing companies are approaching TCG’s 2019 National Conference attendees and exhibitors with fraudulent offerings of hotel rooms at significant discounts. Lured by highly attractive rates, exhibitors and attendees fall prey to these imposters losing significant deposits, discovering hidden costs, up-front charges or being bait and switched to hotel rooms they never booked.
Of course, these companies are in no way affiliated with TCG or the InterContinental Hotel in Miami. They troll the internet and association websites looking for conferences and then gain access to email addresses for direct contact or draw attendees to their websites posing as your association’s sanctioned housing provider. Do not give them your credit card information.
Miami’s InterContinental is the ONLY official housing provider for TCG’s 2019 National Conference and will not contact you directly to make a reservation. Booking through TCG’s official housing provider ensures you will be working with a reputable company, that your credit card information is secure, and that you will benefit from all services provided to Conference attendees at the official hotel.
If you are contacted by anyone asking if you need a room reservation for TCG’s 2019 National Conference, or if they represent themselves as the “TCG housing provider,” please get as much information as you can including their phone number, book nothing, then contact TCG at conference@tcg.org with the information you were able to collect.
TCG acknowledges that some attendees do seek lodging outside of the official Conference hotel in the hopes of saving on lodging costs, and in some Conference years depending on the contracted terms with our official hotel, TCG is able to support attendees in doing this. This is one of those years, and TCG hopes to provide further information about alternative housing options or other ways of keeping Conference costs down, as we recognize that attending a Conference of this nature can be expensive for arts practitioners. However, please be aware that TCG is only able to offer assistance and/or protection for reservations in our "official" Conference hotel.
Please keep checking this page for further updates on our lodging recommendations, and in the meantime, check out articles like this NY Times one on the risks of AirBnb rentals in Miami Beach and the surrounding areas.
If you have any questions about lodging, please contact conference@tcg.org.
